Becker is positioned 46 miles northwest of Minneapolis; and 19 miles southeast of St.

Becker was platted in 1867, and titled for George Loomis Becker, a state legislator. A postal service called Becker has been in operation since 1870. According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 9.1 square miles (23.57 km2); 9.1sq.m is territory and 0.45 square miles (1.17 km2) is water. Xcel Energy operates the Sherburne County Generating Station (Sherco) inside the city.

As of the census of 2010, there were 4,538 citizens , 1,526 homeholds, and 1,164 families residing in the city.
