Additionally, Interstate Highway 90 is centered on Blue Earth, as the east and west assembly squads met here in 1978.

As a tribute, there is a golden stripe of concrete on the interstate near Blue Earth.

Blue Earth was platted in 1856. The town/city took its name from the Blue Earth River which surrounds the town. The river was given the Dakota name "Mahka-to" (meaning Blue Earth) for the blue-black clay found in the river banks. A postal service has been in operation at Blue Earth since 1856. In July 2007, the Blue Earth City Council allowed space for a Green Giant memorabilia exhibition.

Lowell Steen, of Blue Earth, has collected thousands of Green Giant items and will permanently loan them to the exhibition. Steinberg Nature Park is a 33-acre park positioned east of Blue Earth on County Road 16.

In 1964, 65 & 66 Blue Earth Bucs were Rated #1 for 3 consecutive years holding many of their opponents to -Negative Total Yards.

In the 1972 Football Team 9-1 played in the First State Football Play-offs and lost; the 1990 Football team rather than 3rd in the State for Class A.

10-12, 1999, The Order of the Arrow (OA), a group inside the Boy Scouts of America, held its Section C-1 - A Conclave in Blue Earth.

Blue Earth is home to many examples of Midwestern architecture, including: Stone used in the assembly of the courthouse was transported from Kasota, Minnesota to Blue Earth by horse and wagon and rail.

Most of the sand used in the mortar was from the Blue Earth river bottom and thoroughly washed.

According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 3.36 square miles (8.70 km2), of which 3.27 square miles (8.47 km2) is territory and 0.09 square miles (0.23 km2) is water. There were 1,453 homeholds of which 25.7% had kids under the age of 18 living with them, 48.0% were married couples living together, 9.9% had a female homeholder with no husband present, 3.2% had a male homeholder with no wife present, and 38.9% were non-families.

21.4% of inhabitants were under the age of 18; 6.9% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 20.4% were from 25 to 44; 26.7% were from 45 to 64; and 24.7% were 65 years of age or older.

As of the census of 2000, there were 3,621 citizens , 1,535 homeholds, and 925 families residing in the city.

There were 1,535 homeholds out of which 27.6% had kids under the age of 18 living with them, 49.8% were married couples living together, 7.9% had a female homeholder with no husband present, and 39.7% were non-families.

In the city, the populace was spread out with 23.1% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 21.9% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 25.8% who were 65 years of age or older.

Donald Deskey, an meaningful industrial and interior designer, was born in Blue Earth on Nov.

He graduated from Blue Earth High School in 1912 and returned only for his 50th class reunion.
