Delano was platted in 1868, and titled for Francis Roach Delano, a barns official. A postal service has been in operation at Delano since 1870. Delano was incorporated in 1876. Three buildings in town are on the National Register of Historic Places: the 1880s Eagle Newspaper Office, 1888 Delano Village Hall, and 1893 Simon Weldele House. According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 4.05 square miles (10.49 km2), all of it land. U.S.
