The populace was 2,564 at the 2010 census. It is positioned on the northeastern shore of Lake Minnewaska.

Glenwood was platted in 1866, and titled for the glen and woods near the initial town site. A postal service called Glenwood has been in operation since 1867. The town/city was incorporated in 1912. According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 5.86 square miles (15.18 km2), all of it land. Glenwood is positioned at the east end of Lake Minnewaska at the junction of Minnesota State Highways 28, 29, 55, and 104.
