The populace was 3,299 at the 2010 census. Jackson was originally called Springfield, and under the latter name was laid out in 1856. A postal service called Jackson has been in operation since 1858. It is speculated that early trappers and explorers were the first to enter the Jackson area.

The first white pioneer in Jackson were brothers William, George, and Charles Wood of Indiana, by way of Mankato.

This was the group that in March 1857, after not being extended hospitality at Smithland, Iowa, massacred 40 pioneer and took four women hostage in the Okoboji and Spirit Lake region before proceeding to Springfield, Minnesota.

Just two months after the massacre and when the region was completely depopulated, the Minnesota State Legislature made this county a political division, naming it Jackson County after the first merchant of St.

The temporary governmental center of county was positioned at Jackson, the town site of Springfield having been retitled.

Determined not to give up, the pioneer soon returned following the Civil War in 1865 and resettled the depopulated Jackson County.

A stockade was assembled on what is presently Thomas Hill, manned by the military, which encouraged citizens to settle in the Jackson community.

According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 4.60 square miles (11.91 km2), of which 4.58 square miles (11.86 km2) is territory and 0.02 square miles (0.05 km2) is water. Jackson is positioned near the center of the county of the same name.

The ethnic makeup of the town/city was 93.3% White, 0.5% African American, 0.4% Native American, 3.4% Asian, 0.8% from other competitions, and 1.6% from two or more competitions.

There were 1,489 homeholds of which 27.2% had kids under the age of 18 living with them, 42.6% were married couples living together, 10.3% had a female homeholder with no husband present, 4.5% had a male homeholder with no wife present, and 42.5% were non-families.

22.7% of inhabitants were under the age of 18; 8.4% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 23.1% were from 25 to 44; 26.4% were from 45 to 64; and 19.3% were 65 years of age or older.

The ethnic makeup of the town/city was 94.03% White, 0.26% African American, 0.17% Native American, 4.03% Asian, 0.77% from other competitions, and 0.74% from two or more competitions.

There were 1,487 homeholds out of which 27.2% had kids under the age of 18 living with them, 49.0% were married couples living together, 7.9% had a female homeholder with no husband present, and 40.3% were non-families.

In the city, the populace was spread out with 23.3% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 24.5% from 25 to 44, 20.5% from 45 to 64, and 22.2% who were 65 years of age or older.

About 4.6% of families and 11.1% of the populace were below the poverty line, including 17.4% of those under age 18 and 9.4% of those age 65 or over.
