While most of the town/city is in Nicollet County, it extends into Blue Earth County a small amount as well.

It is neighbored to the south athwart the Minnesota River by Mankato. The two metros/cities have a combined populace of over 54,000.

North Mankato is the lesser of the two principal metros/cities of the Mankato-North Mankato Metropolitan Statistical Area, a urbane region that covers Blue Earth and Nicollet counties.

Highways 14 and 169 and Minnesota State Highway 60 are three of the chief routes in the city.

According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 5.99 square miles (15.51 km2), of which 5.87 square miles (15.20 km2) is territory and 0.12 square miles (0.31 km2) is water. As of the census of 2010, there were 13,394 citizens , 5,580 homeholds, and 3,553 families residing in the city.

The ethnic makeup of the town/city was 93.9% White, 2.1% African American, 0.2% Native American, 1.7% Asian, 0.8% from other competitions, and 1.3% from two or more competitions.

There were 5,580 homeholds of which 31.2% had kids under the age of 18 living with them, 50.0% were married couples living together, 9.8% had a female homeholder with no husband present, 3.9% had a male homeholder with no wife present, and 36.3% were non-families.

The median age in the town/city was 35.5 years.
