Location of Onamiawithin Mille Lacs County, Minnesota inside Mille Lacs County, Minnesota Onamia (/o ne mi / oh-naym-ee- ) is a town/city in Mille Lacs County, Minnesota, United States.

Originally, the town/city of Onamia was organized from the consolidation of two communities, Village of Onamia (Ojibwe: Onamanii-zaaga'iganiing) and the Village of Ericksonville (Ojibwe: Gibaakwa'igaansing).

Onamia is titled after Lake Onamia, of which "Onamia" is derived from the Ojibwe word onaman meaning "red ochre", or locally as "vermilion".

According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 0.97 square miles (2.51 km2), of which 0.96 square miles (2.49 km2) is territory and 0.01 square miles (0.03 km2) is water. Onamia is three miles south of Mille Lacs Lake.

As of the census of 2010, there were 878 citizens , 349 homeholds, and 167 families residing in the city.

The populace density was 914.6 inhabitants per square mile (353.1/km2).

There were 398 housing units at an average density of 414.6 per square mile (160.1/km2).

The ethnic makeup of the town/city was 83.0% White, 2.3% African American, 9.9% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.3% from other competitions, and 3.8% from two or more competitions.

The median age in the town/city was 41.7 years.

28% of inhabitants were under the age of 18; 9.4% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 15.3% were from 25 to 44; 22.7% were from 45 to 64; and 24.7% were 65 years of age or older.
