Perham was platted in 1873, and titled for Josiah Perham, a barns official. Perham was incorporated in 1881. According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 3.18 square miles (8.24 km2), all of it land. As of the census of 2010, there were 2,985 citizens , 1,304 homeholds, and 722 families residing in the city.

The populace density was 938.7 inhabitants per square mile (362.4/km2).

There were 1,388 housing units at an average density of 436.5 per square mile (168.5/km2).
